Haematoma

Written by Dr Sheila Strover on March 14, 2025

A haematoma is a collection or pooling of blood in an area of the body, creating a clotted lump.

Fracture haematoma or muscle haematoma?

The initial haematoma in a fracture carries to the site of injury those important substances that trigger healing. In the muscle, the haematoma essentially does the same thing but the clot may persist as a blood filled lump which might need to be removed.
