Biological scaffold

Written by Dr Sheila Strover on March 14, 2025

Biological scaffolds are derived via tissue engineering from matrix materials that normally support the cells of various tissues of the body.

Requirements of biological scaffolds

Biological scaffolds need to be:

  • biocompatible
  • biodegradable
  • have relevant mechanical properties
  • have suitable architecture
  • be cost effective to manufacture
